AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 10-6 victory over visiting Newberry Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 31-11 on the season.
After spotting Newberry a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team battled back quickly, tying the contest in the bottom half of the stanza.
Luke Westerberg doubled with one down. Two batters later,
Nile Goings had a two-base hit, plating Westerberg.
Brian Parreira knotted the contest on a 1-2 pitch, launching a homer to right field.
USC Aiken took a 4-3 lead in the second inning.
Alex Mills drew a walk and moved to second on a single by
Daulton Weeks. A wild pitch allowed both runners to move up 90 feet. With one away,
Jose Bonilla lifted a sacrifice fly to center field as Mills raced home for the advantage.
Tied at 4-4, Parreira doubled home Price for a one-run lead in the bottom of the third. After the Wolves evened the game in the fourth, Thomas' squad plated a run in the fifth when Price blasted a solo shot that nearly hit the scoreboard.
Weeks increased the working margin in the sixth with a homer off a 1-0 pitch for a 7-5 lead. After USC Aiken loaded the bags later in the frame, Parreira ripped a pitch to straight-away center field. The ball grazed off the glove of the center fielder for a bases-clearing double.
The visitors scored a run, but
Hunter Dollander shut down the opposition for the four-run victory.
For the game, Parreira registered three hits to go along with a career-high six RBI.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they play at Montevallo. First pitch is slated for 8:30 p.m., EST.
