AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted an 8-2 victory over Flagler Saturday afternoon in a league match-up.
The Pacers improve to 24-9 on the year and 9-5 in league play. The Saints fall to 21-14 overall and 9-5 against conference foes.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team broke open the game with five runs.
Jose Bonilla was hit by a pitch and with two down, he moved to second on
Nile Goings' walk.
Jonathan Banks ripped the first pitch he saw into left field, tying the game at 1-1.
Zach Moon took a 1-2 pitch to right center field, plating Goings and Banks for a 3-1 edge.
Brian Parreira launched a two-run homer for a 5-1 margin.
Thomas' team added a run in the second and third stanzas.
In the second, Bonilla singled to left field and stole second with one away. He trotted home when
Mitchell Price belted a single to left for a 6-1 lead.
The Pacers pushed it to 7-1 when Parreira rocketed a single to right field, scoring Moon, who opened the frame with a double down the left field line.
USC Aiken added to its lead in the eighth. With one down, Parreira doubled and moved to third on
Daulton Weeks' infield single.
Bonilla's double allowed Parreira to race home, making it 8-2.
For the game,
Connor Riley worked five strong innings to earn the win. He struck out eight batters while giving up two runs on five hits. He walked three.
Nick Yobbi worked the final four stanzas to get the save. He struck out four while giving up just three hits.
Parreira led the way with three hits and three RBI. He also scored twice. Bonilla, Moon and Weeks notched two hits apiece. Moon drove in two while also crossing home plate twice.
