AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team swept a pair of contests from St. Augustine's by scores of 9-1 and 5-2.
The Pacers are now 9-3-1 on the season.
Hanna Hyder led the way for head coach
Jerry Snyder's team in the opener with a career-high three RBI. She went two for-three with a pair of runs scored.
Lyndie Dorgan kept up her strong performance this season with a pair of hits, driving in two.
Hayley Elkins notched two hits as did
Brielle Jungblut. Jungblut's speed allowed her to score a pair of times.
In the circle,
Chandler Terrapin worked a complete game, giving up one run on five hits. She struck out seven while walking one.
After Hyder led off the first by getting on base, Terrapin smacked a double down the left field line, plating her.
In the second, Hyder doubled home
Courtney Strauss and Jungblut for a 3-0 edge.
Magan Thrower singled home Hyder for a 4-0 advantage.
After the Falcons scored on a wild pitch, USC Aiken got things going in the fourth. Dorgan singled home Jungblut. In the fifth, the Pacers wrapped up the game with a big frame. Elkins doubled home Terrapin before
Hannah Price doubled home Elkins.
With the bases loaded, Hyder walked, plating Price. Dorgan's bases loaded single ended the game as
Sydney Kate Murphy trotted home for the 9-1 win.
USC Aiken got on the board quickly in game two. With two away,
Kristan Lowery swiped second and third after walking. She managed to slide across home plate on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 in the first.
The Pacers pushed the margin to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the third. Lowery walked and stole second base. She moved to third on Thrower's double to left center field. Then, Terrapin rocketed a double to left field, driving in both runners.
The Falcons pulled within two at 3-1 with a solo shot in the fourth stanza.
Snyder's team got the run back and added some insurance in the bottom of the frame.
Julianne Leduc walked and hustled to second on a bunt by Dorgan.
Leah Boghosian laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases.
Hyder singled home Leduc to make it 4-1. After an out, Dorgan scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 contest. The visitors pushed across a run in the seventh, but could get no closer.
For the game, Terrapin notched a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Boghosian had two hits while Lowery scored a pair of runs.
Elkins registered the win since the pitching was predetermined, improving to 3-1 on the season. Dorgan picked up the extended save – the first of her career.
