USC Aiken Has Setback Against Georgia College

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 72-60 contest to Georgia College Tuesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-6 overall, including 0-3 in league play.

Emily Waters led the way for head coach Mark Miller's team with a career-high 23 points. Phenecia Howard accounted for 10 markers in the loss. Melyk Taouil chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes of work.

USC Aiken found itself trailing 18-11 with 2:18 to play in the opening quarter. However, Waters converted an old-fashioned three-point play. Shayla Baldwin's charity toss cut the deficit to three at 181-5. Then, Shay Fluellyn buried an inside jumper with 45 ticks on the clock to pull within one at 18-17.

The Pacers continued the run, scoring the first five points in the second half to make it 23-18 – and the last two points came via charity tosses from Allenia Ponder. The Bobcats managed to knot the contest at 23-23 and the game went back-and-forth the rest of the half. The visitors managed to hold a 38-32 advantage at the break.

Miller's team pulled within three at 40-37 on a lay-up by Star Toomey, but that was as close as the team would come the rest of the way.

After the Bobcats pushed the margin to double figures, USC Aiken made it an eight-point contest on a deep three-ball by Waters to close the third stanza. However, Georgia College managed to extend the margin to double figures at the 7:58 mark in the fourth and kept it the rest of the game.

The Pacers return to action Dec. 30 when they travel to Columbus State for a 1:30 p.m., contest. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
