USC Aiken Blanks Lander, 3-0

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a 3-0 win at Lander Friday evening in a PBC contest in a milestone night for the squad.

The Pacers are now 23-4 on the season, including a 9-2 mark in league play. The Bearcats fall to 15-11 overall and 4-8 against conference foes.

Head coach Glenn Cox picked up his 200th career victory at USC Aiken in the blanking of the Bearcats. Rebecca Martinez picked up her 1,000th career dig in the opening set, becoming just the fifth active sophomore to reach that plateau in Division II.

Julia Forster led everyone with 13 kills while registering a .348 attack percentage. Alie Smith Continued her stellar season with 11 kills to go along with 10 digs for a double-double. She hit .417 in the match.

Christine Carroll pounded home eight kills while hitting .429. Kelsey Spurlin and Okwunne Ogbogu tallied five and four kills, respectively, while Emily Teelon found the court three times in four attempts (.750 attack percentage).

Teelon dished out a match-best 33 assists to go along with seven digs and two aces.

Martinez garnered a match-best 20 digs while Natalie Perrault chipped in seven.

The Pacers dominated the match throughout, but the squad was outstanding at the service line, totaling 16 aces, which is just one short of the school record. It marks the third time the squad has posted 16 aces in a match, with the last coming on Oct. 23, 2010 against Coker.

Kayla Duggan was sensational behind the line, posting a career-best six aces. Brynn Bonner got in on the act with three aces while Martinez, Perrault and Teelon notched two apiece. Smith chipped in one for good measure.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they close out the regular season at Augusta. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
