GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision at Lander Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 3-9 on the season, including a 1-5 mark in league play. The Bearcats stand at 6-4 on the year and 3-3 against conference competition.
Head coach
Hilary George's team registered the first shot on goal in the contest, which occurred at the 3:59 mark. Rookie
Gressa Olson rocketed a shot toward the frame, but it was stopped by the keeper. Less than a minute later, USC Aiken took a corner kick and Olson tried to head in the pass, but it narrowly missed high.
After
Katie Commins saved a shot by the Bearcats, the Pacers pushed forward and earned another corner kick.
Tori Caldwell played the ball into the box, but
Casey Rish missed an attempt in the 20
th minute of play.
Lander got on the board at the 25:08 mark, but
Tashiana Kwatowski tried to even the score 45 seconds later. Her shot was deflected by a defender. The home squad added another goal in the 32
nd minute for a 2-0 lead heading into the final 45 minutes of action.
The Bearcats struck again in the 52
nd minute for what turned out to be the final score of the match.
For USC Aiken,
Catherine McHale and Caldwell had shots in the second period of action.
George's team was outshot 14-6, including a 7-1 margin on goal. The visitors combined for four saves and each team had three corner kicks.
Commins played 32:38 and had one save while
Karin Cadwalader registered 57:22 between the pipes with three stops.
