Pacers Drop Overtime Contest To Patriots, 3-2

AIKEN, S.C – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a hard fought 3-2 overtime match to Francis Marion Wednesday evening in a PBC contest.

The Pacers are now 3-10 on the year, including 1-6 in league action. The Patriots are 4-6 on the year and 1-5 against conference competition.

FMU struck with a goal late in the first half for a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Head coach Hilary George's team continued to battle in the second period and pushed forward the entire period. At the 84:06 mark, Sarah Moore blasted the ball toward the frame and Sarah Moore punched it in, knotting the contest at 1-1.

Less than 90 seconds later, Tori Caldwell took the ball on the left side of the pitch and blasted an attempt from 30 yards out and found the back of the net for a 2-1 edge.

With just 51 seconds to go, the Patriots knotted the contest at 2-2, forcing overtime.

Both teams had opportunities early in the extra session and USC Aiken took a corner kick with under a minute to play. The Pacers were unable to convert in the box and the ball was played ahead to a Patriot, who managed to score the game-winning goal.

For the contest, USC Aiken outshot the visitors 17-8, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Karin Cadwalader played every second between the pipes and stopped three shots.
