AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-2 contest to North Georgia in a PBC contest.
The Pacers are now 3-11 on the year and 1-7 in league play. The Nighthawks stand at 8-3-2 on the year and 5-2 against conference competition.
Head coach
Hilary George's team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute of action.
Marissa Lee found
Sarah Moore in the box, who turned and fired home a shot from 10 yards out for the advantage.
After a foul in the box in the 26
th minute,
Catherine McHale calmly took the kick and booted it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
USC Aiken tried to tack on a third goal of the half, but
Tori Caldwell's attempt was saved at the 34:00 minute mark.
The visitors made it 2-1 before the intermission and evened the score off a header in the 60
th minute.
The Pacers continued to push forward, but Moore's attempt was saved as was
Casey Rish's. In the 70
th minute, the Nighthawks took a 3-2 lead, but George's team continued to battle.
Willa Olson and
Brye Epley each fired shots that narrowly missed, but the team was unable to put another shot on frame in the loss.
For the match, USC Aiken was outshot 18-11, including 9-8 on goal.
Karin Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped six shots.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Clayton State at 3:30 p.m. It will be Senior Day and the student-athletes will be honored prior to the start of the match. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
