AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion in the regular-season home finale Tuesday evening in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 22-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was extremely well-balanced Tuesday evening.
Julia Forster pounded home a team-high nine kills while hitting .350.
Alie Smith shared team-best accolades with nine kills while chipping in 11 digs.
Kelsey Spurlin slammed home eight kills and hit .368.
Emily Teelon led everyone with 29 assists. She complimented it with seven digs and six kills while hitting .500.
Defensively,
Rebecca Martinez garnered a match-high 18 digs.
Kayla Duggan tallied 13 digs while
Okwunne Ogbogu stuffed a match-high four blocks.
USC Aiken rattled off the first four points of the match. Leading 4-3, Cox's group pushed the score to 10-5. During the run, Forster had a pair of kills while Smith served up an ace. The Pacers extended the margin to 22-13 and cruised to the 25-16 win thanks in part to back-to-back kills from Smith.
The second stanza was close early on, but the home team pounded home 14 kills against one error en route to the six-point win.
After intermission, USC Aiken jumped out to a 9-4 lead on a block by
Alicia Hines and Teelon. Leading 12-9, an error gave the home squad back the ball. Spurlin had a kill while Teelon found the court with an ace. The Pacers made it 16-9 on a block from Ogbogu and Spurlin. Holding a 21-15 lead, the Patriots tallied back-to-back errors.
Leading 23-16, USC Aiken scored the final two points on miscues by the visitors.
