USC Aiken Garners A 3-0 Win Over Paine

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over visiting Paine Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest.

The Pacers are now 20-2 on the season.

Alicia Hines led everyone with 11 kills while hitting .714. Okwunne Ogbogu notched nine kills and hit .562. Alie Smith hammered home seven kills and smashed a .778 attack percentage. Natalie Perrault accounted for six kills while Julia Forster chipped in four. Kayla Duggan and Julianna Hoekwater registered three kills apiece. Avery Macklin and Lauren Howard chipped in a kill apiece.

Howard led everyone with 16 assists while serving up a match-best three aces. Juliette Narbonne dished out 12 assists to go along with a pair of digs.

Brynn Bonner accounted for a match-best 10 digs and sliced the defense with two aces. Despite playing sparingly, Rebecca Martinez chipped in eight digs. Duggan added seven digs in the win.

Leading 7-6 in the first set, head coach Glenn Cox's team embarked on a 9-1 run for a 16-7 advantage. During the spurt, Ogbogu rattled off a pair of kills while Martinez served up one of her three aces. Smith found the court twice and Howard sliced the defense with two aces en route to a 25-15 victory.

USC Aiken ran away with the second set. The squad started the frame a 7-1 lead and never looked back in the 25-5 victory. The team powered home 16 kills against just one error for a .714 attack percentage in the stanza.

The third frame was close through the first portion, but USC Aiken rattled off nine of the last 10 points for a 25-15 win. During the final run, Hines started things off with a kill. Perrault tallied two kills while Bonner found the court with an ace. Duggan and Ogbogu recorded a block to end the set.  

The .464 attack percentage the team registered marked the seventh-best effort in school history.
