AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team garnered a 3-1 win over Carson-Newman before sweeping Lincoln Memorial 3-0 on the final day of the PBC-SAC Crossover.
The Pacers are now 18-2 on the season.
Christine Carroll and
Alie Smith registered match-high accolades with 13 kills apiece. Carroll hit .360 for the match.
Julia Forster added 11 kills while
Alicia Hines and
Avery Macklin notched nine kills apiece.
Emily Teelon was near triple-double status with 49 assists, 17 digs and seven kills. She hit an astounding .412 in the match.
Defensively,
Rebecca Martinez tied the school record for digs in a four-set match with 38.
Kayla Duggan posted a career-best 23 digs while
Natalie Perrault accounted for 16 in the win.
At the net, Carroll was in on three blocks while Macklin chipped in two.
After dropping the opening frame, head coach
Glenn Cox's team broke open the second stanza with a 4-0 spurt. Teelon had a kill and an ace during the run, making it 13-6. Leading 22-15, Forster hammered home a pair of kills before Macklin finished it off with a kill.
Leading 8-7 in the third set, Teelon and Smith teamed up for kills while a pair of miscues by the visitors made it 12-7. A 4-0 run a few plays later pushed it to 17-9 and USC Aiken was not seriously challenged in the 25-19 win.
Trailing 7-2 in the third stanza, Hines hung in the air for a bit before slamming the ball past a trio of defenders to make it 7-3. The kill sparked a 5-0 run. Perrault served up an ace while Smith and Forster had kills to make it 8-7.
Leading 15-11, Carroll had a kill while Teelon baffled the defense with an ace. A point by Smith and an error by the Eagles pushed the margin to 19-12 en route to the 25-21 victory.
In the nightcap against the Railsplitters, Smith notched a match-best 16 kills while hitting .407. She accounted for 13 digs for a double-double. Macklin posted eight kills while Carroll and Forster notched six kills apiece. Carroll hit .429 in the contest.
Teelon registered a match-best 32 assists while Martinez accounted for six.
Juliette Narbonne had three assists and
Lauren Howard one.
Defensively, Martinez recorded a match-high 25 digs. In addition to Smith's 13, Perrault accounted for nine. Teelon added seven while Duggan chipped in six.
Leading 19-17 in the first frame, Hines had a kill, sparking a 4-0 spurt. Smith also had a kill in the run. After a point from the visitors, Teelon and Duggan ended the set with back-to-back kills.
Smith's kills prompted a 6-0 run midway through the second stanza, giving the home squad an 18-10 advantage. Macklin added a pair of kills in the process while Smith chipped in one more. Holding a 23-19 edge,
Kelsey Spurlin and Smith notched back-to-back kills for the victory.
Cox's team jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the final frame thanks in part to four kills from Macklin. USC Aiken was not seriously challenged the rest of the way. Kills from Owkunne Ogbogu and Duggan pushed the score to 21-9 en route to the 25-16 win.
