AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 6-0 decision to Armstrong State in a PBC contest Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-7 overall and 1-3 against league foes. The Pirates improve to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference action.
The Pirates possessed the ball early and went on the attack, but
Karin Cadwalader was up for the challenge, recording a pair of saves in the first 8:52. However, Armstrong State managed to break through for a goal at the 12:20 mark.
After the goal, the USC Aiken defense tightened up, not allowing a shot off a pair of corner kicks by the Pirates. Cadwalader was up to the task at the 13:08 mark, making a beautiful save.
The visitors recorded three straight corner kicks, but head coach
Hilary George's team did not allow a shot to be fired. Cadwalader tallied a pair of stops in a two-minute span before
Sarah Moore blasted a shot on goal from 25 yards out at the 29:18 mark. Although Armstrong State went back on the attack, the defense, led by
Abby Frick and
Tori Caldwell, contained the Pirates the rest of the period.
Sarah Drury tried to tie the contest in the 54
th minute, but her attempt was stopped. In the 56
th minute, the Pirates struck for a 2-0 advantage. The visitors tacked on a pair of scores in the 63
rd minute of play for a 4-0 margin.
Trailing 5-0, Moore pivoted and rocketed an outstanding ball toward the goal that was saved by the keeper. Caldwell played a nice corner kick, but Drury's shot barely missed wide of the goal at the 73:39 mark.
Catherine McHale missed wide in the 76
th minute.
The Pirates added a goal at the 79:16 mark for the 6-0 final.
For the match, Armstrong State held a 21-6 advantage in shots, including a 16-3 lead in shots on goal.
Cadwalader registered 10 saves while the Pirates combined for three. The visitors maintained a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
