YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision at Young Harris Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 3-8 overall, including a 1-4 mark against conference foes. The Mountain Lions improve to 4-1-3 on the year and 3-1-1 in league play.
The host squad struck first, taking a 1-0 advantage at the 7:32 mark. A couple minutes later YHC tried to increase its lead, but
Karin Cadwalader came up with the save.
In the 15
th minute of play,
Amanda Giordano tried to knot the score, but her shot missed the mark to the left of the frame.
Tori Caldwell's attempt in the 16
th minute was saved by the Mountain Lions' keeper.
After Maria Martinez's shot was blocked, head coach
Hilary George's team attempted to clear the ball, but it crossed the end-line and was ruled an own goal, putting the Pacers in a 2-0 deficit.
Catherine McHale's shot in the 22
nd minute missed to the right of the goal.
In the 25
th minute, YHC scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out for a 3-0 advantage.
Giordano and
Amanda Mazzie were unable to connect on a pair of shots late in the first half. After USC Aiken earned its first corner kick from
Sarah Drury,
Abby Frick blasted a shot from distance that was stopped by the keeper, sending the teams into the second half with the score at 3-0.
Sarah Moore and Drury each had shots in the final period, but neither were able to connect.
For the contest, USC Aiken was out-shot 16-9, including an 8-2 margin in shots on goal. George's team had one corner kick in the contest.
Both teams were whistled for eight fouls. Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped five shots.
