Second-Half Surge Leads USC Aiken Past Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team netted three second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 3-6 overall and 1-2 against conference competition. The Hurricanes are 3-4 on the year and 0-2 against league foes.

The win stops a six-match losing skid for USC Aiken.

After a scoreless first half, head coach Hilary George's team broke through for the first tally of the match at the 50:25 mark. Newcomer Catherine McHale broke through the defense and found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.

Less than two minutes later, the Hurricanes knotted the contest at 1-1. However, the tie was short-lived.

Thirty-three seconds after the match was tied, Brye Epley blasted a shot that got past the keeper to make it 2-1 in favor of the Pacers at the 53:30 mark.

USC Aiken continued pushing forward after taking the lead and it paid off. The Pacers were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box in the 71st minute. McHale took the penalty kick and promptly found the back of the net for an insurance goal.

For the match, Karin Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes. She registered six saves.

Abby Frick and Sarah Moore registered five shots apiece, including three on goal. Sarah Drury totaled five shots in the victory.

The three goals in the second half marked the first time USC Aiken had rattled off three in the same period against a Division II team since last year's 3-2 victory over Young Harris on Sept. 23, 2015.

The Pacers held a 27-13 advantage in shots and a 12-7 edge in shots on goal. George's team racked up 14 corner kicks and did not allow the home squad to have a corner kick.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Armstrong State at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
