Pacers Drop PBC Opener

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 4-0 decision to Georgia College in the Peach Belt Conference opener.

The Pacers are now 2-6 on the year, including an 0-1 mark against league foes. The Bobcats improve to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1 against conference competition.

Just 25 seconds into the match, Maddie Stephen blasted a shot from 10 yards out that found the back of the net for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Head coach Hilary George's defense settled down after that. In the 12th minute, Sarah Moore booted a shot toward the goal that was stopped by Ashlee Graham.

The Bobcats controlled the next 10 minutes, earning a pair of corner kicks before breaking through for a goal at the 23:51 mark to make it 2-0.

USC Aiken started to maintain possession and pushed forward. In the 40th minute, Sarah Drury garnered a corner kick, but the team was unable to capitalize with a shot attempt.

After the break, the Bobcats added a goal 39 seconds into the final period before pushing the margin to 4-0 in the 49th minute of play.

Catherine McHale rocketed a shot from 20 yards out at the 51:53 mark, but was turned away by Graham. The Pacers continued pushing forward, becoming more aggressive. That helped Brye Epley get a shot in the 75th minute and George's team earn another corner kick in the 76th minute of action.

However, the Pacers would not register another shot over the final 14 minutes of play.

For the match, George's team was out-shot 13-3. Both teams had three corner kicks in the contest.

Karin Cadwalader turned away three shots while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they travel to Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m.
