COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 7-0 decision at No. 1 Columbus State Saturday afternoon in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
The Pacers are now 2-5 overall while the Cougars improve to 4-1 on the year.
The home squad was whistled for a foul and a pair of offside fouls in the opening minutes, but managed to get the first shot of the match at the 4:43 mark. After missing high twice,
Karin Cadwalader garnered a save in the 10
th minute.
The Cougars pressed forward, earning four more shots in the next five minutes of play. Cadwalader saved one while one was blocked and another hit the post. At the 15:59 mark, CSU broke through with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
The Pacers trailed 3-0 before
Sarah Moore earned the team's first shot of the match. In the 38
th minute, Moore blasted a shot that missed wide.
In the 44
th minute of play,
Amanda Mazzie tallied a shot that was saved, keeping the contest at 3-0 heading into the second half.
The Cougars scored four goals in the second period while holding the Pacers without a shot over the final 45 minutes of play.
For the match, USC Aiken was unable to register a corner kick. The team was out-shot 39-2.
Cadwalader registered nine saves in the loss while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.
