HICKORY, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 4-0 tilt at Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the young season.
Head coach
Hilary George's squad put together a solid effort against a tough opponent.
After three shots sailed wide by the home team and
Karin Cadwalader made a save, USC Aiken gained possession of the ball. The Pacers'
Catherine McHale launched a shot that missed just left of the post.
In the 18
th minute of play, the Bears managed to net a score for a 1-0 edge. Six minutes later, L-R struck again for a 2-0 advantage.
Despite being down, George's team pushed forward. McHale reloaded and rocketed a shot toward the frame that was stopped by Andrea Leano in the 27
th minute of play.
The Bears tacked on a goal at the 28:11 mark for a 3-0 advantage. USC Aiken tried to pull closer, but
Sarah Drury missed high and
Hannah Meredith's attempt was blocked in the 39
th minute.
Cadwalader was up to the challenge in the early going of the second period, stopping back-to-back shots by the Bears.
At the 62:00 mark of the contest,
Sarah Moore booted a ball that was blocked by a defender. In the 73
rd minute, Drury's attempt was thwarted by Leano, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard.
L-R added a goal in the 78
th minute of play. USC Aiken continued to push forward, but
Monica Armendariz's shot was stopped.
Between the pipes, Cadwalader saw 12 shots on goal and stopped eight while playing the full 90 minutes.
For the match, USC Aiken was out-shot 18-7. The team tallied two corner kicks compared to five by the home squad.
The Pacers return to action Monday afternoon in a contest against Carson-Newman. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m.
