Each week throughout the 2016 USC Aiken men's basketball season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.
Facing His Old Team
Senior
Christian Nobles faced his former school last week and did very well in the 75-71 win. Nobles tied for team-high honors with 18 points in 30 minutes of action. He accounted for a pair of assists and a pair of rebounds while adding a steal. Nobles canned two shots from deep and made all four charity tosses in the win.
Barnes Sealed The Deal
In the win over Paine,
Jalin Barnes managed to help guide the Pacers out of trouble and a late deficit en route to the four-point victory. He tied for team-high honors with 18 points. After scoring five points in the first 20 minutes of action, Barnes exploded for 13 markers in 17 minutes of play. He netted four-of-six shots in the second half, including two-of-three from behind the three-point stripe.
Protecting This House
The Pacers have won three straight games in the Convocation Center. This week, USC Aiken plays a pair of home games against Anderson and Chowan. Should head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team be able to protect the home court advantage both games, the Pacers would have five wins, which equals the total number of home wins from Vanderslice's first season.
Rebounding From The Road
USC Aiken dropped its first contest of the season, which was a 12-point setback at Florida Southern. The Pacers have a home contest Wednesday against region foe Anderson before hosting Chowan Saturday. The team does not play again on the road until after final exams.
Matthews Hits The Mark
After missing the win over Paine, sophomore
Mark Matthews returned to action and was in fine form at Florida Southern. He buried seven-of-12 shots from the floor for a team-best 19 points. He canned all four charity tosses and hit a three-pointer in 30 minutes of action.
Spreading The Ball Around
Although the team lost at Florida Southern, head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team spread the ball around extremely well and finished with four double-digit scorers.
Mark Matthews,
Jalin Barnes,
Henry Bolton III and
Raheem Freeman combined for 56 points on 22-of-44 shooting from the floor.
Inside The Numbers
This week, USC Aiken plays on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 3. The Pacers are 97-106 since moving to Division II in Wednesday games. The squad is 167-154 in Saturday contests since moving into the PBC. The squad is 1-6 on Nov. 30, but the team is 7-1 on Dec. 3.
Against The Opponents
This week, USC Aiken takes on Anderson and Chowan. The Pacers are 4-1 in the all-time series against the Trojans. USC Aiken holds a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against Chowan, having won the lone game between the two, which occurred in 2007.
