Pacers Race Past Braves

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team earned a 5-1 victory over UNC Pembroke Wednesday evening in a crucial Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers improve to 3-12 overall and 2-6 against conference foes. The Braves fall to 5-9 on the year and 3-5 against league competition.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team got things going rather quickly. In the seventh minute of play, Adria Dalmau dished out a pass to Jordan Misiri, who rocketed home a shot from five yards out for a 1-0 advantage.

USC Aiken continued pushing forward. Roberto Biendicho's shot at the 8:18 mark was saved, but the squad made it 2-0 less than 30 seconds later. This time, Dalmau was on the scoring end. Nathan Shanko played the ball back to Dalmau, who blasted a shot that found the back of the net from 20 yards out.

The Pacers' defense played well, keeping the visitors away from striking distance. At the 28:45 mark, Misiri dribbled to the middle of the pitch and flicked the ball to Biendicho, who held the possession briefly before firing home a shot from the wing. Biendicho curled the ball into the upper right of the goal for the score.

The team was not done pushing forward in the opening half. Andre Simmond slipped past a pair of defenders before finding Misiri. With the keeper coming toward him, Misiri played the ball over his head for a 4-0 margin.

Ofoje's team struck again in the 56th minute of play. Biendicho dribbled up the left side of the pitch and crossed it into the box where Shanko slid and tapped the ball into the back of the net.

The Braves netted their score in the 70th minute.

For the match, USC Aiken held a 16-11 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Orlando Maldovan made a few tough saves, finishing with three in the contest while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.

Misiri led everyone with two goals and an assist. Biendicho, Dalmau and Shanko all posted one goal and one assist apiece. Simmond was also credited with an assist.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Montevallo at 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com. Prior to the match, the seniors will be honored for their hard work and effort throughout their time at USC Aiken.
