DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 10-0 decision at North Georgia Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 4-10 overall and 2-6 against conference competition. The Nighthawks are now 9-1-2 on the year and 6-1-1 in league play.
Goalkeeper
Karin Cadwalader was tested immediately, but she was up for the challenge. The host Nighthawks registered three shots in the first four minutes of play, but Cadwalader turned away each chance to keep the contest scoreless.
UNG broke through with a goal at the 10:23 mark off a long pass into the box. In the 20
th minute, the Nighthawks added to the lead off a cross into the box for a 2-0 edge.
After Cadwalader came up with a save in the 21
st minute, the home squad made it 3-0 three minutes later.
With the score at 4-0,
Rachel Romeo blasted the Pacers' first shot of the contest, which was saved, keeping the score the same. It was the lone shot USC Aiken could muster in the first 45 minutes of action. The Nighthawks added a goal with 28 seconds to play in the opening period for a 5-0 halftime advantage.
Trailing 7-0,
Amanda Giordano blasted a shot, but it was stopped by the Nighthawks' keeper. In the 79
th minute,
Sarah Drury's shot was blocked.
The Pacers' defense continued to play hard as
Dakota Curtis stopped a shot at the 80:20 mark.
For the match, Cadwalader played 66 minutes between the pipes and stopped eight shots. Curtis played the final 24 minutes and stopped one attempt.
