Pacers Come Up Short Against The Nighthawks

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team dropped a 6-3 contest at North Georgia Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 2-10 overall and 1-5 against conference competition.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team fell behind 1-0 as the home team took a 1-0 edge at the 7:46 mark. However, USC Aiken quickly countered. Just 9:15 into the contest, Roberto Biendicho found Adria Dalmau, who promptly blasted a shot to the near post from 25 yards out, knotting the match at 1-1.

The Pacers tried to take a 2-1 lead in the 19th minute. Andre Simmond took a corner kick, but Dalmau's shot off the set piece was blocked. In the 28th minute, Jordan Misri's shot was saved. Nathan Shanko's attempt was then blocked.

Trailing 2-1, Ofoje's team drew a foul in the 36th minute of action. Ryan Dwyer took the kick and rocketed home a shot, tying the affair at 2-2.

The teams remained tied heading into the second period. In the early part of the stanza, UNG pushed forward. USC Aiken's first chance to increase its scoring total in the second frame came via Samuel Andrews, but his shot was saved at the 64:01 mark.

In the 79th minute, Misiri pushed the ball forward and found Dwyer, who one-timed it into the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. However, the home squad netted the tying goal less than three minutes later and added what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 82:41 on the clock.

USC Aiken was out-shot 22-10, including a 12-6 margin on goal. The Nighthawks had 10 corner kicks compared to two for the visitors.

Orlando Maldovan played all 90 minutes between the pipes. He stopped six shots.

The Pacers return to action when they step out of conference Wednesday and travel to Pfeiffer for a match at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
