Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team performed well against South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate, but ultimately fell by a 2-0 score.
The Pacers are now 0-4 on the season.
"We are very proud of how our team showed its resiliency tonight," head coach Hilary George said. "They bounced back quickly and gave maximal effort for the entire match. We look forward to what this week will give us to continue to grow together as a unit. We will be ready for Georgia College."
Head coach Hilary George's team was tested just 53 seconds into the match. However, Karin Cadwalader was up for the task, stuffing the shot by Kaitlyn Brunworth.
USC Aiken's first shot attempt came at the 9:42 mark when Amanda Giordano rocketed a shot toward the frame that missed to the right. Two minutes later, Jenna Beauregard took a corner kick for the visitors, but the squad was unable to get a shot attempt on the possession.
The Pacers nearly took the lead in the 39th minute when Megan Smits blasted the ball, but the Bulldogs' keeper was able to collect it, preserving the scoreless tie. However, Wingate took a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute of action.
In the second half, George's team continued being aggressive. Beauregard had a shot on goal in the 47th minute of play. The squad earned a pair of corner kicks within a 30-second span a few minutes later, but the Pacers could not muster a shot on the possession.
Casey Rish posted a shot on goal at the 73:21 mark and Hazel Kelley tallied a shot on frame four minutes later, but neither could convert the attempt into a goal.
Wingate netted what turned out to be the final score of the match in the 80th minute of play.
Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes. She registered five saves for the evening.
For the match, USC Aiken was out-shot 12-5. The Pacers held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Pacers return to action next Saturday at Georgia College in the Peach Belt Conference opener. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
