Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken recorded a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Division I foe South Carolina State Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-8-1 on the season.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Hilary George stated. "It is the first time all season that we've played a full 90 minutes and put together a total game. We are playing better soccer and creating opportunities."
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Brye Epley came up huge for USC Aiken. She registered the first goal of her career, giving the team a 1-0 advantage. Epley netted her score at the 49:54 mark.
The home team netted the tying goal with just seven seconds remaining in regulation.
In the overtime session, Akeyla Furbert chance at the 97:37 mark sailed wide of the frame. Epley nearly had a game-winning tally at the 102:36 mark, but it hit the post.
George's team nearly clinched the victory on several occasions, including on a Megan Smits' breakaway in the second overtime period. However, her attempt sailed just wide of the goal. Tori Caldwell's attempt in the final seconds also went wide of the frame.
USC Aiken dominated all facets of the match. The squad held a 12-9 advantage in shots. The team also had five corner kicks compared to just two by the home team.
Karin Cadwalader played all 110 minutes between the pipes. She tallied four saves in the draw.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they step out of conference to play at Newberry. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
