Pacers Fall To Braves

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision at UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers are now 4-11-1 on the season, including a 4-6 mark against league foes.

UNC Pembroke tallied all three goals in the first half, including what turned out to be the game-winning score in the first minute of action. However, head coach Hilary George's team out-shot the home team 24-10, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.

Trailing 1-0, USC Aiken went on the offensive. Akeyla Furbert's shot 76 seconds into the match was blocked. Jenna Beauregard took a pair of corner kicks over the next 30 seconds and Megan Smits ended up blasting a shot that sailed wide right of the frame.

The Pacers continued winning possessions, earning three straight corner kicks between the eighth and 11th minute of action. Furbert's shot at the 14:46 mark was stopped, keeping it at a 2-0 contest.

Trailing 3-0, USC Aiken's offensive attack was relentless. Heaven Tylee notched a shot in the 27th minute. Furbert and Sarah Moore each had shots saved by the keeper in the 28th minute of play. Furbert tallied a pair of shots that sailed wide prior to Emily May's attempt bending left.

In the first period, USC Aiken held a 9-5 edge in shots and a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pacers had their first attempt of the second period in the 51st minute, but it sailed high of the crossbar. UNC Pembroke was able to withstand a flurry of shots by the visitors in the final 45 minutes of action, preserving the 3-0 win.

Nicole Cranny played all 90 minutes between the pipes, totaling a pair of saves. In all, 10 USC Aiken student-athletes recorded shots. Furbert led the way with seven attempts, including three on target.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host North Georgia on Senior Day. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the seniors will be honored for their hard work and dedication throughout their time as a member of the USC Aiken women's soccer team.
