Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 10 University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team clinched a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title with a 97-82 victory at Armstrong, coupled with the loss of GRU Augusta at Francis Marion.
The Pacers are now 24-3 overall, including a 16-1 mark in PBC play.
Head coach Vince Alexander's team was paced by Ronald Zimmerman's game-high 27 points on nine-of-15 shooting, including seven-of-12 from downtown. Paul Larsen added 22 markers on seven-of-11 shooting while Jesse Seilern and DeVontae Wright each added 15. However, Rick Alderman notched a double-double in the win by totaling 11 points and 11 rebounds on five-of-seven shooting in 27 minutes of work.
USC Aiken drained 32-of-57 (56.1 percent) from the floor, including a nine-of-15 (60 percent) effort from the three-point strike. Zimmerman drained seven-of-12 from deep.
The Pacers also canned 24 charity tosses in the win. The squad dished out 18 assists compared to 12 by the home team.
USC Aiken found itself trailing 13-3 less than five minutes into the game, but came back to knot the contest at 37 just before the break when Zimmerman drilled a deep three-point shot with six ticks on the clock.
His shot sparked the team in the second half – as the Pacers netted 60 points in the final 20 minutes.
Seilern connected on a three-point shot to get things going. It helped the Pacers jump out to a 61-48 advantage early in the second period and the team never looked back. During the big run to start the final period, Zimmerman drained five three-point buckets.
USC Aiken's largest lead was 17 with just 34 seconds remaining.
The team is currently two games ahead of GRU Augusta for the regular-season title with two games left in the regular season. The Pacers and Jaguars play each other Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., in Augusta.
