Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team scored four second-half goals en route to a 5-2 victory over Young Harris in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 4-3 overall, including a 1-1 mark in league play.
The visitors got on the board first in the contest with a tally in the 43rd minute despite the Pacers controlling the possession for much of the first half. Just 45 seconds before intermission, Megan Smits scored the first of her two goals, knotting it at one apiece. She collected the ball near midfield and raced straight toward the right side of the box, firing it past the keeper at the 44:15 mark.
In the 50th minute, Hannah Allison broke through the defense and raced down the middle of the field, rocketing a shot that found the back of the net from 18 yards out, giving the team a 2-1 advantage.
A minute later, Allison connected on a beautiful pass to Smits between three defenders. Smits collected the pass and sent a blazing shot that found its way past the keeper for a 3-1 advantage.
The visitors pulled within one 89 seconds later off a penalty kick. However, it was as close as the Mountain Lions would get the rest of the way.
Jenna Beauregard took a corner kick just a few seconds later and found a leaping Heaven Tylee, who headed the ball in for the fourth score of the match for the Pacers.
Akeyla Furbert closed out the scoring in the 75th minute of play when a ball that Cyndle McGuinness played found her feet. Furbert found a spot in the goal for a perfectly placed ball, making the score 5-2 in favor of USC Aiken.
For the match, Alli Edens played all 90 minutes. She registered two saves.
The Pacers totaled 23 shots, 13 of which were on goal. The squad dominated possession in the match, earning 12 corner kicks to just one by Young Harris.
The Pacers return to action on Saturday in another conference contest at Columbus State. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
