Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up its fifth straight victory by notching a 3-0 win over Limestone Friday evening.
Game scores were 25-4, 25-17 and 25-12.
With the win, the Pacers improve to 6-1 on the season.
Senior
Leah Rodgers posted a match-high eight kills in the win. Aly Johnson totaled seven kills while hitting .600.
Shawn Hotson and
Taylor Stratton each accounted for five kills while
Ashley Diedrich and
Endea Ellison garnered three apiece. Collectively, the squad hit .286.
Amanda Bologna distributed a team-high 13 assists while
Sheila Walsh totaled 10. Walsh picked up a double-double by adding 10 digs.
Danielle Mercer posted a match-best 16 digs while Bologna chipped in eight.
The Pacers had a tremendous match from the service line as the team accounted for 11 aces. Walsh had five while Mercer totaled four. Bologna and Hotson each had one.
At the net,
Hannah Tierney had three block assists while Hotson and Rodgers each had two block assists. Ellison stuffed two shots, one of which was a solo block.
In the opening frame, the teams battled to a 2-2 tie. However, a service error by the Saints gave the lead to the Pacers at 3-2. Walsh dropped back to serve. She continued to serve until a service error made it 15-3. During the run, she had four of her aces.
With the score at 16-4, Hotson's kill gave the ball back to USC Aiken. Mercer recorded four aces, including one that clinched the set.
The Pacers opened the second frame with a 10-2 run thanks in part to kills by Johnson, Walsh and Stratton. USC Aiken pushed the lead to as many as 14, coming on a kill by Stratton to make the score 20-6. Hotson and Tierney combined for a block to win the set.
The third frame was more competitive in the beginning. Trailing 6-4, head coach
Glenn Cox inserted
Katie Toman into the line-up to serve. By the time she was done serving, the score 11-6. Diedrich and Walsh had kills during the spurt.
The Pacers never looked back, pushing the lead to as many as 13. After Walsh served with the team up 24-12, Rodgers jumped at the opportunity to slam down a free ball to clinch the match.
USC Aiken takes on Lincoln Memorial tomorrow at 12 p.m. before finishing the tournament with a 4 p.m. match against Valdosta State.
