Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team continued its winning ways with its third consecutive sweep in a road conference twinbill sweep of UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening at LRA Field.

The Pacers picked up a 1-0 win in game one before pulling away for a 5-1 victory over UNC Pembroke (14-23, 3-7 PBC) in game two.

USC Aiken has now won six straight games after sweeping its last three doubleheaders. The Pacers have swept three of their last four Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders.

USC Aiken (19-9, 8-4 PBC) scored the only run of the first game in the top of the first inning.

Kaitlyn White (Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston) singled to left field to commence the inning for USC Aiken. White then advanced all the way to third on an error.

Whitney Clary (Newberry, S.C./Newberry HS) then brought in White for the game-winning run.

India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) picked up the victory for USC Aiken in the circle in game one. She struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits in the contest.

The eight strikeouts for Kornegay in the first game allowed her to overtake Stacie Oakley for third all-time in school history in strikeouts. Kornegay (15-7) now has 391 strikeouts in her Pacer career.

USC Aiken out-hit UNC Pembroke, 5-3, in game one. Kayla Denham (Palatka, Fla./Daytona State College) was the only player on either team with multiple hits in game one. She was 2-for-3.

The Pacers scored their first run of the second game in the top of the fourth. They would add to their lead in the top of the fifth with three runs.

After UNC Pembroke plated its first run of the doubleheader in the bottom of the sixth, USC Aiken responded by posting another run in the top of the seventh. Cortney Sadler (Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla., Manatee-Sarasota) procured the run for USC Aiken when she singled in reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS), who had arrived on base via a double.

UNC Pembroke would then not be able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the seventh to leave USC Aiken with the four-run win.

Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) claimed the win for USC Aiken in game two. Lemm (4-2) pitched the first six innings of the contest. Kornegay dealt the final inning in the second game.

USC Aiken out-hit UNC Pembroke, 8-7, in game two.

Three Pacers recorded multiple hits in game two with Nicole Borden (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School), Jones and Sadler all finishing the Pacer win with two hits.

Ashley Harrell and Karlee Wilson led UNC Pembroke in game two with two hits each.

The Pacers will next travel to Greenwood, S.C. to square off against league foe Lander on Saturday, Mar. 31. The first game of the Peach Belt Conference twinbill is slated to commence at 12 p.m.

USC Aiken will then close out its week on the road in Dahlonega, Ga. against nationally-ranked North Georgia Sunday, Apr. 1. The league doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
