Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
softball team continued its winning ways with its third consecutive
sweep in a road conference twinbill sweep of UNC Pembroke on
Wednesday evening at LRA Field.
The Pacers picked up a 1-0 win in game one before pulling away
for a 5-1 victory over UNC Pembroke (14-23, 3-7 PBC) in game
two.
USC Aiken has now won six straight games after sweeping its last
three doubleheaders. The Pacers have swept three of their last four
Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders.
USC Aiken (19-9, 8-4 PBC) scored the only run of the first game
in the top of the first inning.
Kaitlyn
White (Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston) singled to left
field to commence the inning for USC Aiken. White then advanced all
the way to third on an error.
Whitney
Clary (Newberry, S.C./Newberry HS) then brought in White for
the game-winning run.
India
Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) picked up the victory for
USC Aiken in the circle in game one. She struck out eight batters
and allowed just three hits in the contest.
The eight strikeouts for Kornegay in the first game allowed her
to overtake Stacie Oakley for third all-time in school history in
strikeouts. Kornegay (15-7) now has 391 strikeouts in her Pacer
career.
USC Aiken out-hit UNC Pembroke, 5-3, in game one. Kayla Denham
(Palatka, Fla./Daytona State College) was the only player on either
team with multiple hits in game one. She was 2-for-3.
The Pacers scored their first run of the second game in the top
of the fourth. They would add to their lead in the top of the fifth
with three runs.
After UNC Pembroke plated its first run of the doubleheader in
the bottom of the sixth, USC Aiken responded by posting another run
in the top of the seventh. Cortney Sadler
(Bradenton, Fla./State College of Fla., Manatee-Sarasota) procured
the run for USC Aiken when she singled in reigning Peach Belt
Conference Player of the Week Lindsey Jones
(North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta HS), who had arrived on base via
a double.
UNC Pembroke would then not be able to scratch across a run in
the bottom of the seventh to leave USC Aiken with the four-run
win.
Samantha
Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) claimed the win for USC Aiken in
game two. Lemm (4-2) pitched the first six innings of the contest.
Kornegay dealt the final inning in the second game.
USC Aiken out-hit UNC Pembroke, 8-7, in game two.
Three Pacers recorded multiple hits in game two with Nicole Borden
(Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School), Jones and Sadler all finishing
the Pacer win with two hits.
Ashley Harrell and Karlee Wilson led UNC Pembroke in game two
with two hits each.
The Pacers will next travel to Greenwood, S.C. to square off
against league foe Lander on Saturday, Mar. 31. The first game of
the Peach Belt Conference twinbill is slated to commence at 12
p.m.
USC Aiken will then close out its week on the road in Dahlonega,
Ga. against nationally-ranked North Georgia Sunday, Apr. 1. The
league doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
