Pacers Unable to Claw Past Bears

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday with Lenoir-Rhyne.

Lenoir-Rhyne (24-9) collected a 5-0 win in game one before pulling away for a 9-3 win in game two.

The Bears out-hit USC Aiken (10-8), 9-5, in game one.

Kaitlyn White (Columbia, S.C./College of Charleston) led the Pacers in the first game, ending her efforts with two hits.

Carlee Carpenter and Sarah Atkins led the Bear cause in game one with two hits each. Carpenter scored two runs to go along with an RBI. She also had a home run and a double.

India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) fanned eight in the first game loss. She dropped to 10-7 on the year with the loss.

Dawon Millwood improved to 13-4 on the year in the game one win in the circle. She struck out three Pacers.

In game two, Lenoir-Rhyne narrowly out-hit USC Aiken, 12-8.

Three Pacers finished with multiple hits with White, Kayla Denham (Palatka, Fla./Daytona State College) and Nicole Borden (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) all claiming two hits. Carpenter, Haily Jarman and Jessica Fellmeth were the top performers for Lenoir-Rhyne with each acquiring two hits.

The two teams opened the second game with both posting a run in the first inning. Lenoir-Rhyne would score two each in the top of the second and third to own a 5-1 lead.

USC Aiken would mount a comeback with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to just two. Lenoir-Rhyne would add another four runs in the top of the seventh to claim the six-run win.

Lauren Harris picked up the win in the circle in game two. She pitched the first 5.1 innings.

USC Aiken's Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern HS) garnered the loss in game two. She pitched all seven innings.

The Pacers will next welcome Georgia Southwestern to JH Satcher Field on Saturday, Mar. 17. The Peach Belt Conference doubleheader will begin with game one at 1 p.m.

USC Aiken will conclude its week at home against national No. 24 and PBC foe Columbus State on Sunday, Mar. 18. The first game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
