Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team dropped both games of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with fifth-ranked Georgia College on Sunday at John Kurtz Field.
USC Aiken (17-13, 3-9 PBC) fell 6-2 in the rain delayed first game on Sunday before falling 2-0 to Georgia College (23-8, 8-4 PBC) in the second game. The doubleheader sweep on Sunday gives the Bobcats the series victory 2-1. USC Aiken garnered a 10-1 win in the first game on Saturday.
Originally started on Saturday, March 26, USC Aiken and Georgia College began what was the second game of the three-game series just under 24 hours after it was originally halted at 5:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.
The game was originally supposed to resume at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, but once again inclement weather forced the action to not get underway until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The second game began on Saturday, March 26 with USC Aiken scoring in the top of the first inning. Georgia College plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead into the second inning.
After the almost 24 hour rain delay, things did not begin well on Sunday, March 27 in the second inning for the Pacers with Georgia College extending its lead to 6-1 with four runs in the bottom portion of the second frame.
USC Aiken would be unable to score until the top of the ninth inning. Josh Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) led things off for the Pacers in the inning when he singled up the middle. Stephen Carmon (Camden, S.C./Camden) then doubled to right field to put two runners in scoring position.
Kyle Rice (Augusta, Ga./Cross Creek) acquired the run for the Pacers when he hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Miller.
The run pulled the Pacers to within four at 6-2, but it would not be enough as the Pacers would not be able to scratch another run across in the stanza in its 6-2 loss to the Bobcats.
Thomas McLeod (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) earned the loss on the hill in the game. He pitched only 1.2 innings before turning things over to reliever Jeremy Smith (Minter, Ala./Southern Union CC).
Smith pitched well in relief of McLeod (4-4), allowing no runs and giving up just three hits in 6.1 innings on the mound. He fanned four.
Mike Guinane dealt the first eight innings to record the win for the Bobcats. He struck out eight Pacers in improving to 7-0 in the 2011 season.
The Pacers and Bobcats both had six hits each in the contest.
Miller and Carmon were the only Pacers to finish with multiple hits as both went 2-for-4.
Ikaika Anderson and Tanner Funk led the Bobcats with two hits each.
In the second game, Georgia College picked up two runs in the bottom of the second inning to claim the 2-0 win.
USC Aiken threatened in the top of the ninth by loading the bases with two outs, but JJ Loker (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) struck out to end the game in a Bobcat victory.
The Pacers finished the second game loss with just three hits. Georgia College had just four hits in the game.
No Pacer had multiple hits with Carmon, Loker and Jowan Gray (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) all claiming a single hit.

After pitching the final 6.1 innings of the first game Sunday, Smith started the second game as well. He was dealt the loss after giving up the two runs in the bottom of the second.
