AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team picked up its third consecutive shutout victory with a dominating 4-0 victory over Converse in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday evening at the "Pacer Pit."

Despite netting four goals and taking 39 total shots, the story of the match on Thursday was the Pacer defense, which held the Valkyries to nary a shot.

The Pacer defensive unit has not given up a goal in the last 326:19 minutes of game action dating back to their narrow 1-0 loss to Lander on Oct. 15. The Pacers have played the entire 90 minutes of the last three matches without surrendering a goal.

The 39 shots taken by the Pacers in the match was just six away from the program record of 45 shots taken in a Pacer 10-0 win over Spelman on Oct. 9, 2002.

USC Aiken sent 19 of the shots towards the Valkyrie net. The 19 shots on goal were four off of the program standard mark of 23 set in the same Spelman match.

Maria Frontroth (Buenos Aires, Argentina/BBS) netted the first two goals of the match for the Pacers, scoring twice in under a one-minute span in the 16th-minute. Frontroth scored the first goal on an assist from Alie Brady (Summerville, S.C./Summerville).

Shortly after the next kickoff, USC Aiken took possession back and went forward offensively again with Jennifer Goodwin (Walterboro, S.C./Colleton County) eventually getting the ball on the right side. Goodwin hit a beautiful cross to Frontroth, who matched Goodwin's efforts by heading the ball magically into the back of the net.

The Pacers would net one more before intermission when Brady grabbed one of her own on an unassisted shot in the 43rd-minute. Brady found room at the top of the box and then managed with her left foot to find space before deftly crossing up the Valkyrie goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.

The Pacers would add one more to the final tally in the closing minutes of the match when Cassey Lloyd (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) made it an unbelievable first appearance in a Pacer uniform by scoring on a one-timer off a cross by Brady.

The win over the Valkyries improved the Pacers to 5-10 on the 2009 season. Converse fell to 3-15 on the year with the loss to USC Aiken.

USC Aiken will next close out the week by playing the first match of a men's and women's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Georgia Southwestern at the "Pacer Pit" on Saturday, Oct. 24. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. It will be senior day at the "Pacer Pit."
