USC Aiken Posts Big Win At FMU

Box Score FLORENCE, S.C.--USC Aiken (8-9, 3-2 PBC) posted its biggest win to date this season by traveling to Florence, S.C. and knocking off Francis Marion (15-8, 3-2 PBC) 3-1 on Tuesday evening in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action at the Smith University Center. Game scores were 33-35, 30-22, 30-22, and 30-22. The Lady Pacers improve to 22-12 in the all-time series, but more importantly move into a tie with the Patriots for third place in the conference standings.(VERONICA SEIDLE PICTURED)

The contest featured a match-up of the last two PBC Players of the Week. Sophomore Mandy Gerolstein led the Lady Pacers with 19 kills, six blocks, and three service aces hitting .400 with a match-best 26.0 points. Junior Lezlie Logan tallied 12 kills for Francis Marion, but was held to a .000 hitting percentage. 

Francis Marion pulled out a hard-fought 35-33 win in game one, and seemed to take control of the match opening game two with an 11-5 advantage. USCA, however, battled back to win game two 30-22. 

The Patriots scored the first seven points of game three to again jump in front, but the Lady Pacers were up to the challenge taking the game by the same count 30-22. Another 30-22 win in game four gave USCA the 3-1 victory. 

Sophomore Missy Deardorff added 13 kills and three blocks hitting .357 while sophomore Veronica Seidle registered 14 kills, two aces, and a team-best 20 digs. Junior middle hitter Laura Williams tacked on eight kills and five blocks while setter Rachel Dalitz recorded 52 assists, four aces, and 11 digs. 

As a team, USC Aiken out hit Francis Marion .189 to .075 and had 15 service aces compared to six for the Patriots. 

Kelly Feber chipped in 11 kills for Francis Marion while Jenna Kaiser had a team-high five blocks. 
USC Aiken will travel to face UNC Pembroke in another Peach Belt Conference showdown on Saturday, October 8 at 3:00 PM.
