USC Aiken Continues Dominance Over Augusta

Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga.--Sophomore right side Missy Deardorff registered 18 kills in leading USC Aiken (14-10, 6-3 PBC) to a 3-0 blanking of rival Augusta State (5-22, 2-7 PBC) on Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action at the Christenberry Fieldhouse. Game scores were 30-23, 30-23, and 30-24. The Lady Pacers, winners of seven of their last eight, improve to 28-6 all-time versus the Lady Jaguars with their fifth-straight victory in the series. 

In game one, play was tight early with the score knotted up for the sixth time at 11-11 before USC Aiken used a 4-0 spurt to jump in front and steadily pull away to the 30-23 win. A crowd of 273 witnessed the cross-river rivalry on "Pack Christenberry" night. 

Game two saw the Lady Pacers surge in front early with a 10-4 advantage and again pull away to the 30-23 win. 

In the third game, the 10th tie of the set came at 14-14, but three kills by Mandy Gerolstein keyed a 12-2 run that pushed USC Aiken ahead 26-16, holding off a late Augusta State rally for the 30-24 win. 

Deardorff added two blocks and one service ace to go along with her match-high 18 kills and .467 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter Laura Williams added 12 kills and three blocks hitting .440 while Gerolstein chipped in nine kills and a match-best four blocks. Senior setter Rachel Dalitz dished out 42 assists, served up two aces, and tallied a team-high 12 digs. 

Sarah Lobstein, the reigning PBC Player of the Week, recorded 11 kills, but managed only a .105 hitting percentage. Rachel Marcy added 10 kills and three blocks for the Lady Jags. 

As a team, USC Aiken hit .278 while holding ASU to a .085 hitting percentage.

USC Aiken remains in fourth place by one-half game in a tightly bunched PBC race. The Lady Pacers are scheduled to host Florida Gulf Coast University, the region's number two team, on Friday, October 28 at 7:00 PM.
