Two Homer In 10-3 Win

Box Score AIKEN, SC--Ashley Farr and Justin Williams each homered and combined to drive in six runs as the USC Aiken Pacers (9-10) quieted the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana (4-6) 10-3 in non-conference baseball action on Monday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. It was the third-straight win for the Pacers, and the fourth consecutive victory in the series which they now lead 11-9.

With one on and two out in the first inning, back-to-back RBI base hits by Robert Davis and Bradley Key plated two runs as USCA claimed the early 2-0 advantage. Both Pacers went 2-for-4 on the night with each of Key's hits being two-baggers.

The second inning proved to be the decisive one for USCA as they pushed across five runs to stake a 7-0 lead. Williams belted his first homer since 2002, a two-run blast to right center. With two outs, Farr crushed a three-run shot over the right field wall to make it 7-0. Farr went 2-for-5 with four RBI while Williams was 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI.

Southern Indiana finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Toby Pritchard singled home Adam Stone who singled and Shaun Dennin added a sac fly to plate Matt Keener who doubled to cut it to 7-2. Noah Wetzel drove in the Eagles' third run on another sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Pacers topped off the scoring with three more in the eighth. Zach Cooper pushed home two on an RBI single to left field and Farr singled through the right side to score Cooper to make it 10-3. Cooper, the 5-7 freshman from North Augusta High School, went 3-for-5 on the evening with two RBI and three runs scored.

Jon Paul worked 4.0 innings giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk in the no decision. Paul Ferrell (1-0) tossed 1.1 innings of hitless relief in notching the win. Randy Stewart, Chad McMurray, Lee Cromer, and Nick Wandless pitched the final 3.2 innings, not allowing a run on just two hits and one walk, striking out five.

Keener (0-1) was chased after 4.0 innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on nine hits in the loss. Mike Kottmeyer held the Pacers to no runs on one hit in 3.0 innings of relief while Nathan Esche was touched for four hits and three unearned runs in 1.0 inning of work.

Pritchard and Tyler Ford each had two hits to lead USI.

USC Aiken will host North Greenville College on Thursday, March 11 at 6:00 PM. Southern Indiana travels across the Savannah River to face Augusta State for a two-game series beginning tomorrow at 1:30 PM.
