Box Score SPARTANBURG, SC--USC Aiken's women's soccer team lost to USC Spartanburg, 5-2 on Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C. The Lady Pacers got a goal and an assist from
Natasha DaCosta but couldn't stop the Lady Rifles offensive attack. USCA falls to 2-6-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. USC Spartanburg improves to 7-2-1 overall and a perfect 3-0-0 in league play.
The match remained scoreless throughout the first period but Faiza Boujaafar put the Lady Rifles on the board just 1:02 into the second frame. Another USC Spartanburg score by Jamie Newman, nearly four minutes later, gave USCS a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Pacers cut the lead in half with DaCosta's (London, Ontario) fourth goal of the season at the 60:11 mark. USC Spartanburg quickly pushed the lead back to two goals when Venice Williams scored 1:18 later.
USC Aiken answered again, reducing the lead back to one, 3-2, with
Jenny Collier's (Cincinnati, Ohio) first ever goal as a Lady Pacer. DaCosta assisted on the goal for the first time this season.
The Lady Rifles scored two goals in the final eight minutes of play to secure the 5-2 victory.
Amber Markley (Lexington, S.C.) played the entire game in goal for USCA. The sophomore saved eight shots but allowed five goals. USC Spartanburg goalkeeper Diana Wabnitz saved two shots and allowed two to pass in 90 minutes of play.
The Lady Pacers will take a week off from game action before traveling to Greenwood, S.C., on Oct. 11 for a match-up with Lander University. The teams are set to begin play at 1:00 p.m.
