Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken lost to Francis Marion, 66-54, tonight at "The Courthouse" in Aiken. The Pacers scored just two points over an 11:02 span in the second half.
Bryant Latimer and
Minda Statkus led USCA with 14 points each. Michael Jenkins and Louis McCullough each scored 13 points for the Patriots.
Francis Marion used a 6-1 run, to start the second half, to extend their four-point halftime lead to 11 points. Jarron Hinton's jumper with 17:01 on the clock capped the run for the Patriots and set the score at 44-33.
USC Aiken chipped away at the lead and
Latimer's basket with 12:08 to play in the game brought the Pacers to within three points, 47-44. USCA would score just 10 points the remainder of the game and would see just one shot fall over the next 11:02. Francis Marion put together a 15-2 run to build their largest lead of the game, 16 points, 62-46, with 1:23 left in the game. McCullough scored nine of the Patriots' 15 points during the run. The junior forward scored 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots.
Eric Dugans ended the drought for the Pacers with a bucket at the 1:04 mark. He added four more points in the final minute. His basket with four seconds left in the game set the final score at 66-54.
Statkus staked the Pacers to a 4-0 lead with two baskets in the first two minutes of the game.
Latimer's trey gave USC Aiken their largest lead of the game, five points, and put the Pacers ahead 9-4 with 15:55 left in the half.
Statkusconnected on seven of his 11 shots from the field for 14 points. The junior also had five steals and led the Pacers, along with
Jamall Gray, with five rebounds.
Andrew Snipe's jumper for Francis Marion tied the game at nine with 14:14 on the clock.
Gray's bucket with 10:28 left in the first half gave the Pacers their second five point lead, 20-15. Jaquan Bracey's two free throws with 7:30 left gave the Patriots their first lead of the game, 21-20. Bracey finished the night with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with nine points and two assists.
Jenkins' jumper with 2:29 left in the half put Francis Marion out in front by six, 32-26. The Pacers answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game for the sixth time. Two lay-ups gave
Statkus four of the six Pacer points during the run. The Patriots hit two three-pointers in the final minute to go back up by six, 38-32, at the break.
Francis Marion shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) for the game and out-rebounded the Pacers 35-27. USCA shot just 39.3 percent (22-of-56) for the game, including 3-of-10 from behind the three-point arch.
The Pacers will continue their two game home stand on Wednesday night when they host the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State University at 7:30 p.m. at "The Courthouse" in Aiken. Wednesday night will also be "Tribute To America / Tribute To Aiken and Aiken County" night. USCA will honor local emergency service workers, firemen and postal employees.
