Box Score Morrow, Ga.--USC Aiken lost to Clayton College & State University, 82-67, Saturday night in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game in Morrow, Ga.
Lee Burton led the Pacers with a game-high 21 points. Jamal Johnson's 19 points led the Lakers. USCA dropped to 2-10 (1-3, PBC) on the season while Clayton State improved to 8-3 (3-1, PBC).
USCA fell behind by nine, 36-27, at intermission after committing 15 turnovers in the first half. The Pacers connected on 45.5 percent (10-for-22) of their first half shots and out-rebounded the Lakers, 19-13. USC Aiken hit on just 3-of-8 free throws in the opening stanza.
Clayton State heated up in the second half and built a 24-point lead midway through the half. The Lakers hit 15-of-31 shots for 48.4 percent and out-rebounded the Pacers, 20-14, in the second half.
For the game, USC Aiken shot 45.7 percent (21-for-46) from the field, 40.0 percent (8-for-20) from behind the three point arch and 73.9 percent (17-for-23) from the charity stripe.
The Lakers hit 47.4 percent (27-for-57) of their shots in the game from the field, 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from three-point land and 72.4 percent (21-for-29) from the free throw line.
The Pacers finished the game even with Clayton State on the boards, 33-33. The Lakers entered the game averaging 44.5 rebounds per game and out-rebounding their opponents by an average of 11.4 per game. Johnson led CCSU with eight rebounds,
Eric Dugans and
Taurus Watson each grabbed six boards for USC Aiken.
Bryant Latimer and
Dugans both scored in double figures for the Pacers.
Latimer scored in double digits for the twelfth straight game with 15 points on 2-of-7 shooting from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Dugans tied his season best with 13 points. The senior also added six assists.
Along with Johnson, Craig Butts, Leon Parker and Lamar Rodgers each hit the double figure mark for the Lakers. Butts finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Parker and Rodgers had 12 and 11 points respectively.
USC Aiken will return to "The Courthouse" for their next two games. The first is a 7:30 p.m. match-up with Francis Marion University on Monday. The Pacers will have one day off before another PBC contest on Wednesday, when Armstrong Atlantic State University comes to Aiken for a 7:30 p.m. game with USCA.
