Box Score SPARTANBURG, SC—The USC Spartanburg Lady Rifles (1-2-0, 1-0-0 PBC) lived up to their name as they out shot the USC Aiken Lady Pacers (1-1-0, 0-1-0 PBC) 21-6 in picking up a 2-0 shutout win in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Jamie Newman slammed in a
Christine Pirinoli rebound in the 41st minute to break the Lady Rifles 220 minute scoring drought and give her team a 1-0 lead at the half.
Pirinoli added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute as goalkeeper
Lindsay Allen made the score stand up recording her first shutout of the season.
Freshman
Melissa Schnoering, who had two goals in her first collegiate match for USCA on Tuesday at North Georiga, got off three shots on goal, but was never able to find the back of the net.
In goal for USCA, sophomore
Shannon Hobbs made eight saves, one off her career-high, on 21 shots faced.
The Lady Pacers will have a 14-day layoff before their next action, a 1:00 PM road match at Mount Olive on September 21. That match is game three of a six-game road swing to open the 2002 season for the Lady Pacers.
