Box Score AIKEN, SC--The 19th ranked USC Aiken Pacers (31-14) picked up a 9-3 non-conference victory over Anderson College (20-19) on Tuesday night at J.H. Satcher Field. In the process of extending their current winning streak to eight games, the Pacers notched their 31st win of the season, the most since the 1996 squad went 32-25.
USCA struck early with four runs in the first as the top three Pacer hitters singled and
Demetrick Drumming then doubled down the left field line.
Drumming's double was the team's lone extra base hit, although they did record 11 singles against three Trojan pitchers.
The nation's third-ranked scoring offense at 9.4 runs per game tacked on four more in the fourth. Sophomore
Tony Hanks led off with a single to left center and later scored on a
Leroy Walker RBI single. Following a
Kyle Langley sacrifice fly that plated
Micheal Snelgrove,
Drumming drove in RBI number 62 and 63 on the year, singling to center field bringing around
Tavis Cummings and
Walker.
Drumming, who finished the evening 4-for-4, is now just five RBI from tying
Adam Riggs' school record of 68 set in 1994.
Senior
Andy Mitchell (2-0) opened the game on the mound for head coach
Kenny Thomas tossing 3.0 innings of three-hit baseball.
Mitchell did not give up a run in walking one and striking out two. He received the win due to a pregame announcement of using at least three pitchers, thus the normal 5.0 inning minimum was waived according to NCAA rule 25.b.2.
Mitch Hearne pitched a perfect 2.0 innings while four more hurlers tossed one inning each combining for three earned runs on six hits.
Caleb Owen,
Ryan Gambrell, and
Donavon Schmidt each recorded two-hit nights for Anderson.
Josh Wilson's double in the first inning was the Trojans only extra base hit.
Brett Youngblood (3-1) suffered his first defeat in four decisions after giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Brad Brock allowed one earned run on two hits striking out two in 2.0 innings of relief while
Nick Wates worked a perfect eighth.
The Pacers will host the seventh-ranked Columbus State Cougars this weekend starting on Friday, April 12 at 6:00 PM in a key Peach Belt Conference showdown. USCA is currently in fifth place in the PBC standings at 12-9, trailing both GC&SU and CSU who are at 12-6.
