Pacers Crush WV Tech

Box Score AIKEN, SC--After posting a 9-6 victory last night, the USC Aiken Pacers belted 14 runs on 18 hits en route to a 14-4 victory over West Virginia Tech in the series finale.  The Pacers improve to 22-13 on the year, while WVT falls to 6-10 on the season. 
  
The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a single by David Ashcraft.  Pacer hurler Henry Elwyn started the contest and after a shaky first inning, looked solid the next four innings. 
  
The WVT lead was short lived as USCA tallied three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.  A two-RBI double by Tavis Cummings got things started for the home team in the inning.  Ashley Farr grounded out to the second baseman asCummings scored the third run of the inning. 
  
The Pacers added another run in the third inning on a RBI single up the middle by Farr.  In the middle innings, the Pacers exploded for nine runs on 15 hits, taking a 13-4 lead heading into the final three frames. 
  
Cummings continued his RBI prowess with a two-run single in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the fifth.  For the game,Cummings finished 4-of-6, a double, six RBI, a home run and two runs scored.  Cummings was also one of five Pacers to record a double. 
  
USCA scored its final run of the game in the seventh inning on the fifth home run of the season by Cummings over the left field fence.
  
Elwyn (1-0) went five innings for the Pacers, allowing two hits, two earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.  Scott Boyd (0-3) took the loss, allowing 11 hits, 11 earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts in four and one-third innings of work. 
  
The Pacers host Taylor University on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at J.H. Satcher Field, before jumping back into conference action this weekend with a three-game series against Armstrong Atlantic State at Satcher Field beginning on Friday.
