Box Score AIKEN, SC--The USCA Pacers (4-3) looked to get back on the winning track against Limestone (3-3), a team that had already beaten the Pacers earlier this season, at J.H. Satcher Field. After trailing 4-2 through three innings, the Pacer bats woke up as USCA scored 12 of the final 16 runs for the 14-8 victory. This was the second game in the past three that the Pacers have scored 10 or more runs.
The Saints were unable to get anything across in the first inning, bringing USCA up for the first time. A single by
Bradley Key got the Pacers on the board first, something they have been unaccustomed to in recent games.
Demetrick Drumming continued his strong start to the 2002 campaign with a RBI single scoring
Key.
Limestone began the hitting barrage in the third inning as it posted four on three hits and one error. A single by
Mark Gardner scored two runs, getting the Saints on the board. Pacer freshman pitcher
Harold Sofield was able to get out of a couple of jams during the first two innings but couldn't go unscathed in the third. The Saints got two more runs, taking a 4-2 lead midway through the third.
Back-to-back doubles by
Ashley Morgan and
Kyle Langley led off a five-run inning by the Pacers in the fourth.
Tavis Cummings hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring
Langley for the second run of the inning. Later in the inning,
Drumming launched his fourth home run of the season, a three run blast to left center, giving USCA a 7-4 lead.
Limestone didn't go away quietly, rallying with four runs of its own in the top of the fifth sparked by a three run blast by
Drew Mitchell giving the Saints the lead back at 8-7. In the bottom half of the inning, the Pacers tied the game at eight a piece on a RBI single by
Leroy Walker.
From then on, it was all USCA as it scored the final six runs of the game, four of which came in the bottom of the sixth inning. A lead off home run by
Cummings proved to be the game-winning run. A two-run double by
Langley scored two more runs giving the Pacers a three run lead. The final run of the inning came on a single by
Walker scoring
Langley from second base.
USCA picked up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh as a slew of new players began to come in for both teams. Between the two teams, 11 pitchers were used in the game. Sophomore
Lee Cromer picked up his first win of the season in relief of
Sofield.
Leading the way offensively for the Pacers today was
Drumming who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Langley was 3-for-4 on the day with three RBI.
The Pacers continue this homestand as they open up Peach Belt Conference play with a three-game set against No. 4 Georgia College and State University this weekend. First-pitch of a doubleheader will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
