Christy Cousins scored two goals to lead the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory Tuesday night.
AC jumped out to a 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest when Cathy Doell turned and fired from eight yards out. But just two minutes later, Cousins hit the ball from the right side of the box and found the lower left corner to tie the match at 1-1.
The match remained tied until the 65
th minute when Cousins intercepted an attempt at a clearing pass by AC and beat the Lady Trojan goalkeeper Amanda Barrow for what proved to be the winning goal for the Pacers.
USCA's final goal came in the 85
th minute when
Bridget Brennan bumped the ball into the net after a wild scramble in front of the AC goal.
Most of the match was played on AC's defensive end. The Pacers outshot the Lady Trojans 23-6. Cousins, a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., took 10 of USCA's shots.
AC received a serious blow during the match when Doell, the leading scorer the last two seasons, had to leave early in the second half with an injury to her left knee.
