Brielle Jungblut recently sat down with USC Aiken baseball standout Brian Parreira for the latest Innovative Solutions “A Closer Look.”
Parreira, a native of Annapolis, Md., transferred to USC Aiken from Mount St. Mary’s as a sophomore to finish his collegiate career. Growing up, Parreira played many positions, but had a stranglehold on first base until the 2017 season. Last year, Parreira saw time at both first base and behind the plate.
“My dad, he got me into baseball ever since I could remember. He showed me the way, and he’s been my inspiration to follow in his footsteps.” Parreira said.
“In all honesty, baseball is more of a mental approach than physical,” he stated.
Parreira continuously works on his physical abilities while trying to perfect them. However, Parreira’s approach and watching how the pitcher throw the ball is more mental than anything.
“Opposing teams have scouting reports,” he said. “The other teams know what you’re good at hitting and what you’re not good at, so it’s become a science. As scouting gets better, it becomes more difficult for the hitters.”
Parreira has learned a lot and has a wealth of experience that will carry him past baseball and in his everyday life.
“I try to be the hardest worker out there – and be a good leader for the underclassmen,” he said. “My leadership abilities can be utilized with school, baseball and later on in life in the workplace.”
