Davin Conway is in his first season as an assistant coach at USCA where he will be the pitching coach while assisting in other key areas of the program.
Conway, in his third collegiate season as a pitching coach, spent the first two years with Barton College.
“Davin will make an immediate impact in all areas of our program,” said USCA head baseball coach Keith Gorman. “He brings intelligence, tireless work ethic, and a deep commitment to player development. His ability to build strong relationships with our student-athletes will accelerate their growth on and off the field. On the recruiting side, his drive and attention to detail will leave a lasting mark on the future of this program.”
The Sarcoxie, Mo. native began his college playing career in 2017 at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. as an outfielder and pitcher. During his time there, he earned the team voted upon award of Most Improved Player in 2018, was named a team captain for the 2021 season, and earned Midwest Conference all-academic honors all four years. Conway walked on to the football team in 2019, where he served as a special teams player and defensive back for the Prairie Fire. Conway graduated with a degree in political science and a minor in education policy.
Following his graduation, Conway attended Cabrini University in Radnor, Pa., where he earned his master’s in science of organizational leadership. Conway was a relief pitcher and veteran presence for the Cabrini Diamond Cavs. Conway helped the program to a 31-11 ledger in 2022 and an Atlantic East Conference Championship runner-up finish in 2023.
In his first season at Barton College, the program fielded one of the top pitching staffs in the country ending the season with a 2.54 K:BB ratio (11th in D-II), a 1.35 WHIP (13th in D-II), and a 4.29 team ERA (19th in D-II). The program also experienced great team success in his time with the staff posting 34 wins in 2024 breaking the previous program record and having another 30-win season in 2025.
During this time Conway coached many standout performers including:
· Tanner Halvorson (Sr, LHP): 8–4, 4.45 ERA in 14 starts, 85 IP, 94 K, 1.24 WHIP
· Matt Rivers (Sr, RHP): 5–3, 2.75 ERA in 13 starts, 68.2 IP, 43 K, 1.28 WHIP
· Connor Patterson (Sr, LHP): 5–3, 4.99 ERA, 66.2 IP, 51 K, 1.44 WHIP
· AJ Campbell (Sr, RHP): 5–4, 4.08 ERA in 13 starts, 81.2 IP, 69 K, 1.35 WHIP
Conway also brings with him a great diversity of experiences including developing practice plans for pitchers, introducing arm care, mobility exercises, utilization of technology, recruitment of varsity team players, and bullpen management on gameday. He has traveled up and down the East Coast to evaluate players for Gorman while with the Bulldogs. His recruitment experience at Barton includes the signings of many high school athletes, junior college players, and four-year transfers, including an NJCAA All-American pitcher, several all-state, all-region, and all-conference high school athletes and transfers.
“I look forward to leading the pitching staff at USCA,” Conway stated. “This program has a tradition of standout arms on the mound and we plan on keeping it that way. Coach Gorman and I both believe that the road to a championship begins with the guys who toe the rubber and we are more than prepared to develop tough competitors on the mound. I want to thank Coach Gorman and the athletic department for this opportunity and trusting me with this position. He took a chance on me and gave me my first crack at being a college baseball coach and I can’t wait to get to work with him for many more successful seasons in beautiful Aiken, S.C.”
