HOF - USC Aiken To Induct Two Into Athletic Hall Of Fame

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken Athletic Department is pleased to announce the addition of two new members into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

The pair represents a coach and a student-athlete. Set to join the USC Aiken Hall of Fame in its eighth class are Dr. William S. Carr (men’s basketball), who will be inducted posthumously, and Zach Norris (men’s basketball).

“The Hall of Fame Committee selected two outstanding people to be inducted into our Hall of Fame,” Director of Athletics Randy Warrick stated. “Each have made their marks in the Pacer history books. Both are very deserving of this honor.”

Dr. Carr was one of the pioneers that helped start basketball at USC Aiken. As a volunteer coach, he contributed his time and resources to make USC Aiken basketball a success from 1961-68.

Under his guidance, the Pacers won league championships in 1962 and 1963 while finishing runner-up the following season. Dr. Carr’s 1965-66 team went undefeated during the regular season.

Norris was a standout on the basketball team from 1976-80. He was a key cog in the line-up that helped turn around the program. During his sophomore season, Norris netted 10.6 points per contest.

As a junior, he led the team with 16.1 points per game. During his final season, Norris guided the team to 21 wins, including a 12-3 mark at home. He sparked the Pacers to four wins in the NAIA Tournament.

Dr. Carr and Norris will join the seventh class comprised of Jeff Goff (Golf), Dr. Jim Kauffman and Jessica Strickland (Softball) for the induction.

The Hall of Fame committee meets every year for voting but inductions occur every other year.

The five will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016.
