AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken athletic department announced the addition of four new members into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
The foursome features four student-athletes from four different varsity sports at USC Aiken. Set to join the USC Aiken Athletic Hall of Fame are Sean Gunn (men’s basketball), Meredith Legg (women’s basketball), Ed Reevey (golf) and Adam Riggs (baseball).
The USC Aiken Hall of Fame committee selected the foursome on Tuesday, Apr. 12, 2011.
“Once again we have another four outstanding student-athletes who are set to be inducted into the USC Aiken Athletic Hall of Fame,” remarked USC Aiken Athletic Director Randy Warrick. “I feel that all four are more than deserving and I am excited to have them become members of our already top-notch Hall of Fame.”
The four new members join the 21 current members of the USC Aiken Athletic Hall of Fame.
The initial class included (Nov. 30, 2007): Lew Perkins (former Athletic Director and men's basketball coach), Johanna Gibbs (former volleyball and women's basketball coach), Roberto Hernandez (baseball), Bill Weeks (men's basketball), Faye Ryans Norris (women's basketball), Charlie Colclough (baseball), Greg Gibson (men's basketball), Tisha England (women's basketball), Kim Merrill Brooks (volleyball), Roxanna Rivera Tirado (volleyball), Brian Kassel (golf), Brooks Blackburn (golf) and Jamie Stanley (golf).
Inducted into the second USC Aiken Athletic Hall of Fame class (Feb. 19, 2010) were Dr. James Barham (former team doctor), Jami Cornwell (softball and women's basketball), Derek Moore (men's basketball) and Dru McPherson Nix (women's basketball and volleyball).
The four new members will join the third class in being inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. The USC Aiken Hall of Fame committee votes on new membership each year, but an induction ceremony is held every two years.
Set to also join the USC Aiken Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the third class on Feb. 17, 2012 are Richard Abney (baseball), Ashley Farr (baseball), Mike Green (men’s soccer) and Kendrick Smith (men’s basketball). The USC Aiken Hall of Fame committee originally selected the foursome on Monday, June 28, 2010.
Gunn was a member of the USC Aiken men’s basketball team from 1988-93.
Gunn ended his career in the top 10 in USC Aiken history in scoring (1,039 points). He is still just one of seven Pacers to score over 1,000 points in his career.
In total, Gunn is still in the top 15 in the school record books in six categories, including rebounds (333), assists (298) and steals (159).
He is the all-time leader in Pacer men’s basketball history in free throws made (301) and free throws attempted (401).
Gunn owns the school single game record for highest field goal percentage in a game with a perfect 10 for 10 performance in a win over Newberry on Jan. 9, 1991.
Legg was member of the USC Aiken women’s basketball program from 2005-09.
Legg is the USC Aiken women’s basketball career leader in scoring (1,480), three-point field goals made (311), three-point field goal attempts (764), free throw percentage (.882) and three-point field goal percentage (.407).
The guard is USC Aiken’s single season leader in consecutive free throws made (45) and best three-point field goal percentage (.475; 76 for 160 – 2006-07).
Legg owns the Peach Belt Conference record for three-point field goals made, three-point field goal attempts, free throw percentage, three-point field goal percentage and most consecutive free throws made. She tied the Peach Belt Conference record for most 3-pointers made in a single game with 10 in a Jan. 2, 2009 victory over Shaw.
She is a two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection (2007-08 and 2008-09). Legg was tabbed to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team after the 2008-09 season.
During the 2007-08 season, Legg was chosen to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Three team. She was also named to the Daktronics All-Region team for her efforts on the court during the same season.
Legg was picked as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week three times in her career (Jan. 21, 2008, Jan. 5, 2009 and Jan. 12, 2009).
Reevey was a member of the USC Aiken golf team from 1991-94.
He was a three-time All-America selection as he was named a NCAA Division II All-American in 1992 (Honorable Mention), 1993 (First Team) and 1994 (Third Team).
Reevey was also a NCAA Division II Golf All-Academic selection in 1993 and 1994.
Currently 19th all-time in school history in career scoring average (75.27), Reevey was an all-region and all-district selection in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
Reevey was named All-Peach Belt Conference in 1992 and 1993. He was also tabbed to the Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament team in 1992 and 1993.
Riggs was a member of the USC Aiken baseball team from 1992-94.
The Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year in 1994, Riggs was voted USC Aiken’s Most Valuable Player in 1993 and 1994. He was also chosen to the Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament team in 1993 and 1994.
Riggs was named All-Peach Belt Conference at second base in 1994.
He was drafted in the 22nd round in the 1994 Major League Baseball Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and after just a short time in the farm system he was considered as one of the top 10 prospects in the Dodgers organization in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Riggs made his Major League debut on Aug. 17, 1997. He eventually played in 61 games in the Major Leagues over the course of four separate years (1997, 2001, 2003 and 2004). In total, Riggs played for five different organizations (Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers).
Riggs was named to the Triple A All-Star team in 2004 with the Salt Lake Stingers (Angels).
In 2005, Riggs signed with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of the Japanese Central League. He played with the Swallows until July 2008.
