J.H. Satcher Field

J.H. Satcher Field officially became the home of the USC Aiken Softball Team on March 22, 2004. On that day, USCA opened play on its new field by sweeping two games from Newberry College, winning the first 8-0 and the second game by a score of 4-3.

The former home of USC Aiken Baseball, J.H. Satcher Field was renovated in the winter and spring of 2004. Located conveniently in the middle of campus, J.H. Satcher Field includes a climate-controlled press box, a concession stand, plenty of parking, coaches’ offices and a locker room at the field. Included among the 1,000 seats are 500 seats with backs.

The Pacers played their final 10 home games of the 2004 season on their new field, posting a 7-3 record, including a doubleheader sweep of Augusta State.

Jami Cornwell has the honor of getting the first hit at J.H. Satcher Field. With one out in the bottom of the first inning of game one against Newberry, Cornwell drove a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for the first hit and first home run at J.H. Satcher Field

It didn’t take long for the Pacers to become accustomed to their new field. In their inaugural season at the park, USCA hit .362 with seven home runs and 45 RBI at J.H. Satcher. The Pacers outscored their opponents, 51-30, at their new home.

Following the 2004 season, the grass infield was replaced with all clay and the outfield sod was replaced.

Since 2005, USC Aiken has continued to post good numbers at the friendly confines.
