HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team notched a 3-1 win over Francis Marion Saturday afternoon at the Coker Cobra Classic.
The Pacers are now 3-0 on the season. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-15.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was paced by
Olivia Miller's 11 kills and eight total blocks.
Alli Bishop posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs to go along with four blocks.
Lexi Rogers notched eight kills and 12 digs while
Avery Pearson hit .500 with five kills. She added two aces.
Rusne Radaviciute had three kills and seven digs while
Chloe Duzenack tallied three kills and five digs.
Madison Fox had a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs while
Olivia Moffett distributed 11 assists. Defensively,
Kira Bostick posted 19 digs.
In the first set, USCA jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind kills from Fox and Bishop. After a kill from Bishop and a block from Bishop and Miller, the Patriots called a time-out. After the Patriots went on a 6-0 spurt, Bostick registered a kill, which started a run for the Pacers. The final point of the 4-0 spurt came from Fox as she served up an ace. Tied at 17-17, Rogers found the court. Two plays later, Miller's point forced a time-out by the visitors. Up 22-20, Miller added a kill. After a miscue by FMU, Duzenack finished the set with a kill.
Down 4-1 in the second set, Pearson started a six-point run with a kill. Bishop and Miller combined for a block. Two plays later, Miller gave USCA the lead with a kill. After another block from the dyad of Bishiop and Miller, Pearson finished the spurt with an ace. Up 8-7, an error gave USCA a side-out. Another error by FMU and an ace from Rogers pushed the score to 11-7. With the score 11-10, an error by the Patriots and an ace from Bostick gave USCA a 13-10 lead. However, the Patriots scored eight of the next nine points for an 18-14 margin. Down 23-20, Rogers and Miller registered points, but the Patriots posted a 25-22 victory.
Cox's group quickly responded in the ensuing frame. USCA jumped out to an 8-2 lead. During the solid start, Bishop and Rogers had multiple kills while Pearson completed the run with an ace. Up 10-5, Radaviciute served up an ace and Rogers followed it with a kill. Leading 14-8, Pearson and Bishop notched kills. Rogers split the defense with an ace before Bishop took a pass from Fox and found the court for an 18-8 advantage. Holding a 20-10 lead, Bishop and Radaviciute notched points as USCA garnered a 25-11 win.
The fourth frame saw the Pacers take an 11-5 lead after a 5-0 spurt. Pearson and Rogers had kills in the run while Bostick served up an ace. Another run extended the score to 16-7 and the team never looked back. Miller and Rogers combined for a block for the final point.
For the match, USCA had 44 kills and hit .194 while limiting the opposition to 36 kills and a .027 attack percentage. Cox's team dished out 38 assists. The team had eight aces to go along with 69 digs and 11 total blocks.
