AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team secured the series victory with a 13-2 seven-inning win over Augusta Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 29-12 on the season, including 16-7 in PBC play.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's squad took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Chancellor Jennings singled with one away and moved to second on
Yariel Diaz's base knock up the middle. Two batters later,
Salvatore Laimo's base knock to left field plated Jennings.
Trailing 2-1 in the second,
Donovan Glisson ripped a double to left field. Two batters later,
Evan Harding walked and stole second. A base on balls to Jennings allowed Diaz's single to drive in Glisson and Harding for a 3-2 edge.
Laimo led off the third with a base hit to left field. He stole second and went to third on
Maverick Grigsby's base knock. An infield single by
Johann Rodriguez allowed Grigsby to take second. Glisson reached on an error, allowing Laimo to score.
Osmin Melendez followed it up with a single up the middle, driving in Grigsby and Rodriguez for a 6-2 cushion.
Diaz singled, went to second when Laimo was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a passed ball. Moments later, Grigsby's base hit drove in Diaz and Laimo. Two batters later, Glisson's single knocked in Grigsby for a 9-2 lead.
In the sixth,
Blake Martin doubled to right center field and took second on a sacrifice bunt. Martin stole home for a 10-2 lead. An inning later, Glisson singled as did Melendez. Two batters later, Jennings ended the game with a three-run round-tripper for the 11-run margin.
For the game, Diaz and Glisson had three hits apiece. Grigsby, Jennings, Laimo and Melendez notched two base hits each. Jennings drove in three while Diaz, Glisson, Grigsby and Melendez drove in two runs each. Glisson, Grigsby, Jennings and Laimo each scored twice.
On the mound,
Ben Shepherd went 2.2 innings and had a strikeout.
Kyle Stock tossed 4.1 innings to get the win. He had five strikeouts.
