BEAUFORT, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost an 11-7 contest at USC Beaufort Sunday afternoon in the PBC series finale.
The Pacers are now 21-9 on the year, including 10-5 in PBC play.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Evan Harding led off with a single to left field and swiped second.
Chancellor Jennings posted a base knock, driving in Harding.
Trailing 3-1 in the fourth,
Blake Martin singled and scored on
Salvatore Laimo's triple to left field. Two batters later,
Maverick Grigsby doubled home Laimo, tying the score at 3-3.
Yariel Diaz doubled to the gap in right center field in the fifth and moved to third on Martin's groundout. Laimo drove in Diaz with a base hit to left center field. After stealing second and taking third on a fly ball, Laimo crossed home on a wild pitch for a 5-3 advantage.
The Sand Sharks scored a run in the fifth and seven in the sixth for an 11-5 lead. USCA cut into the deficit with a run in the seventh. Martin reached on a fielder's choice and Laimo drew a walk. A wild pitch allowed both to move up 90 feet. A walk to
Johann Rodriguez loaded the bags. After a pitching change, Grigsby reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Martin to score. However, the team was unable to push across another run in the inning.
Harding doubled, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Diaz sacrifice fly in the eighth.
For the game, Laimo tallied three hits, including a triple, drove in two and scored two. Grigsby, Harding and Martin had two hits apiece. Grigsby knocked in two while Harding and Martin each scored twice.
On the mound,
Kerry Herndon-Brown got the start and struck out two in 2.1 innings.
CJ Lincoln had four strikeouts in 3.1 frames.
Brady Dunlop threw two-thirds of an inning.
Nick Napolitano threw 1.2 innings and had a strikeout.
Will Eichler also saw time on the mound.
