Laimo Posts Three Hits In Series Finale

BEAUFORT, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost an 11-7 contest at USC Beaufort Sunday afternoon in the PBC series finale.

The Pacers are now 21-9 on the year, including 10-5 in PBC play.

Head coach Keith Gorman's team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Evan Harding led off with a single to left field and swiped second. Chancellor Jennings posted a base knock, driving in Harding.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Blake Martin singled and scored on Salvatore Laimo's triple to left field. Two batters later, Maverick Grigsby doubled home Laimo, tying the score at 3-3. Yariel Diaz doubled to the gap in right center field in the fifth and moved to third on Martin's groundout. Laimo drove in Diaz with a base hit to left center field. After stealing second and taking third on a fly ball, Laimo crossed home on a wild pitch for a 5-3 advantage.

The Sand Sharks scored a run in the fifth and seven in the sixth for an 11-5 lead. USCA cut into the deficit with a run in the seventh. Martin reached on a fielder's choice and Laimo drew a walk. A wild pitch allowed both to move up 90 feet. A walk to Johann Rodriguez loaded the bags. After a pitching change, Grigsby reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Martin to score. However, the team was unable to push across another run in the inning.

Harding doubled, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Diaz sacrifice fly in the eighth.

For the game, Laimo tallied three hits, including a triple, drove in two and scored two. Grigsby, Harding and Martin had two hits apiece. Grigsby knocked in two while Harding and Martin each scored twice.

On the mound, Kerry Herndon-Brown got the start and struck out two in 2.1 innings. CJ Lincoln had four strikeouts in 3.1 frames. Brady Dunlop threw two-thirds of an inning. Nick Napolitano threw 1.2 innings and had a strikeout. Will Eichler also saw time on the mound.
